We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day with Deborah's family. In Honduras it is tradition to wait until midnight to eat Christmas Eve dinner so we stayed up waiting while they shot off all of their fireworks right outside the door all night long. We played Uno and Old Maid, ate, drank punch, played hide and seek in a tiny area that has no hiding places for big people, and hung out with her family. We watched Elf after dinner and then passed out to be woken up by David, Deborah's cousin, throwing himself onto Mike and I. We had done Secret Santa with Bob and Joyce a few days before. We spent Christmas day at a river that was freezing where we took some more team pictures of us holding Mike in a water fall and us spelling out Global Year with sign language while sitting under the water fall. Taylor wants to copy our amazing idea with the Dominican Team but (lovingly said), we were first, plus we have Mike. God is good, and it is so much fun seeing His handiwork.

We had 2 Thanksgivings, 1 with Deborah's awesome family, and 1 with the staff at the Hospital. At Deborah's, her mom made chicken, turkey, pork and a ton of sides including mashed potatoes, it was amazing, we ate a ton.
We ate at the hospital because we are joining together with Pastor Jose and Sarah who run a local hospital. We ate together so all of our teachers could get to know all of the hospital staff. Mike made mac n cheese and stuffing and they were truly inspired by Jesus, they were tiny little pieces of heaven. I love food. I loved getting to spend that time of giving thanks to God with the family that we have down here, it was very special. We have had so much growth in attendance for both church and bible study, so much so that we have had to start using 2 vehicles to pick everyone up. Continue to pray for more growth and more souls to be saved for Christ.
We have been having optional bible study for our older boys every Wednesday afternoon. We are currently going through the book of Daniel. They need some serious love and some serious Jesus, but they drive us insane so pray for the lovers and the ones who need the love. As you can see, Mike was fighting the frustration, he held it off, so strong.
We have been drilling wells in and establishing a relationship with a nearby community called Brisa Del Norte. It is a gorgeous community at the base of a mountain, but it is really poor, there are a ton of mud shacks and they have a community bathroom that is under a tarp. We play soccer with them every once in a while on Saturdays. We play a women's game and a men's game and our women absolutely destroy theirs, it's not even a competition but they still try. The opposite has been true for the men, we lost 5-2, 8-3, and then tied 2-2. But in our fourth game last Saturday we won 4-2. We are proud. We were led to victory by a bunch of Rommel's cousins and Pecho Grande (big chest)(Dalton) who pushed their best player around all day using only his chest, it was funny to watch, the little guy stood no chance.
Justin has preached at one of their Wednesday night services but it was really our church in their village, about 5 villagers were there including the pastor. Pray for Christ to influence that village and to save souls there. Also pray that the wells work, there have been a lot of complications with them. |
